It is thought that land had been an ownership of the monarch until till 1868 ( Khedive Said period). Before that date peasants merely utilized the land.

 

·        Khedive Said issued a decree, which implied the possibility of transforming the land ownership to persons other than the royal family, ministers and associates.<!--break-->

Beshir Sakr, activiste, membre fondateur du Comité de soutien aux paysans bénéficiaires de la réforme agraire, cinq journalistes et des dizaines de paysans ont été arrêtés dans une violence extrême, à Dekernes (Delta du Nil).  Les cinq journalistes ont été tabassés et leur materiel a été arraché de force. <!--break-->

            L’agriculture constitue un segment important de l’économie égyptienne. La contribution de l’agriculture au PIB s’est vue néanmoins progressivement réduite de 33 % en 1960 à 17 % en 2000. En outre, l’agriculture n’absorbe plus que 29 % de la population active contre 49 % en 1960. La moitié de la population égyptienne étant encore rurale, une part décroissante de cette dernière étant exclusivement paysanne (vivant de revenus agricoles), il est certain, en dépit de l’absence de statistiques officielles à ce sujet, que le monde rural abrite un nombre de travailleurs « non-employés » ou « sous-employés » qui n’a cessé de croître au cours des dernières décennies.

I would also like to thank Via Campensina, for making it possible for us to be with you today, and talk to you about our thoughts, ideas and struggles. When we were children, we were taught in History class, that Egypt was the "World's Breadbasket" ….Today Egypt import's more than 60 % of its food. Illiteracy, liver and kidney diseases, as well as poverty, sectarian strife, and insecurity prevail. We were always looking towards the future.
